Freeman offers two-day training workshops that provide basic instruction in how to apply a variety of prefabricated orthotic supports. The schedule includes instruction in applied anatomy, hands-on fitting and personal training assistance by qualified professionals in the field. See the course outline below.

An excellent resource, this training guide should be a part of every practitioner's video library. The cost of the video is $25.00 plus shipping. Note: You must attend the workhsop to receive a diploma and continuing education credits.

 


The Fundamentals of Fitting Workshop

An intensive two-day classroom instruction providing basic education in identifying and applying a variety of prefabricated orthotic supports commonly prescribed by physicians and used by healthcare providers. The schedule includes instruction in applied anatomy, hands-on fitting and personal training assistance by qualified professionals in the field. New products, trends and potential growth markets are discussed. An in-class exam concludes the two-day study with diplomas awarded to students who successfully complete the course. Each day's session begins at 8:00 A.M. and lasts until approximately 5:00 P.M.

 


Attendees

This two-day workshop is designed for a variety of individuals in the healthcare field who require a working knowledge of the fundamentals of fitting orthotic supports. Not only appropriate for the novice fitter, it is also useful as a refresher course for the experienced professional who desires to polish existing skills, learn new fitting techniques or simply keep abreast of new products.

Fees

A non-refundable registration fee of $150.00 is required. This fee includes lunch for both days. Registration is limited, so please return the workshop registration form as soon as possible.


Workshop Agenda

Day 1 (8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.)

Applied Anatomy: Basic anatomy of the axial skeleton, knee joint and abdominal musculature.
Spinal Curvatures: Anatomical and abnormal curves.
Common Orthopedic Conditions: Articulations of the spinal vertebrae, conditions that affect spinal function and therapeutic value of orthotic supports.
Fitting Room: Proper size and utilization, patient record keeping and market potential.
Back Supports: Types of elastic wraparounds and side lace back support garments for specific spinal regions, bony landmarks, measuring and fitting procedures and hands-on fitting instruction.
Breast Prostheses: Fitting the postmastectomy patient.
Venous Insufficiency: Anatomy, varicose veins and venous compression therapy.
Medical Compression Stockings: Measuring procedures with hands-on fitting instruction.
Prosthetic Aids: Identification and sizing of prosthetic socks and skrinkers.
Patient Aids: Review of various home healthcare products, durable medical equipment and upper and lower limb orthoses.
Hernias: Anatomy, types, variety of trusses, support garments and fitting instruction.

Day 2 (8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.)

Cervical Supports: Types and applications of various cervical orthoses.
Traction: Review of standard traction apparatus and application of cervical, pelvic and leg traction.
Diabetic Shoes: Overview of shoe styles, related products and proper foot measuring procedures.
Rigid Frame Spinal Braces: Overview of types available and proper fitting procedures.
Sports Supports: Review of current trends in Sports Medicine with particular attention to preventative and post-trauma ankle and knee orthoses.
Physician/Hospital Detailing: The do's and don'ts.
Written Exam.
