What Causes Arthritic Nerve Pain?

Posted

Arthritis is an ailment that is quite common among a large demographic of people, not just those who are aging or working a lot with their hands. The condition can be inherited by genetics, onset by trauma to a joint, or develop over time from over use and poor form. Arthritis is a disease of the tissues inside of joints and it caused by temporary or long term inflammation at the site. Two classifications of arthritic conditions exist, osteoarthritis and and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is usually caused by genetics, aging, and a history of repeated injuries. Rheumatoid arthritis is actually an auto immune disease that affects not just the site of injury or nerve pain but the entire body. The auto immune disease that is Rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation of the entire body, especially the joints, and causes arthritis pain.

How can I Tell if I Have Arthritis?

A trip to your doctor with a list of sites and times pain occurs will be helpful in the diagnosis of either form of arthritis. Questions to ask yourself include:

  • Do you experience pain in specific places or all over your body?
  • Is the pain a dull ache, or a radiating pain that extends the site?
  • Is it usually in specifics joints of your body?
  • When does the pain occur?
  • While sleeping or in the morning?
  • After exercise or a work shift?
  • Does it feel like it is within your veins or muscles?
  • Have you experienced any trauma to the body in correlation to the pain?
  • Do you spot noticeable swelling in any parts of your body?
  • And Does your family have a history of any form of arthritis?

If you have a history or your symptoms seem to be in line with the auto immune disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, an X-Ray can provide confirmation. Because it is a degeneration of cartilage between joints, the damage can easily be seen on X-Ray and a diagnosis will be conclusive. Otherwise, diagnosis is largely made by physical examination and suggestive symptoms.

What are the Symptoms of Arthritis?

Patients who suffer either form of arthritis complain of daily pain that can feel like a dull ache or a radiating pain at the site or extended to other areas of the body. This pain can keep them from a healthy regime of regular exercise, a good night's sleep, or from performing their jobs. In the most severe cases, weakness and loss of movement can occur, as well as deformity. Other symptoms to look for are warmth and swelling of any areas of the body and clicking and cracking of the joints. The great thing is that the pain and arthritis itself can be managed very well through non-invasive measures. The main forms of treatment and pain management will include the reduction of inflammation, a likely contributor to much of the pain.

What Forms of Treatment are Available?

One of the best forms of treatment will be using a compression brace on effected body parts. These support products usually wrap around a limb or joint and enclose by velcro or laces. Sometimes compression socks make a good treatment option as well. The compression of the effected body part reduces inflammation and the pain it causes in numerous ways. First of all, it enhances the blood, nutrient, and oxygen flow of the area and it keeps it warm for the best possible use of the body part. Braces often encourage the patient to be kind to their body, moving it more gently and with proper form. Speak with your doctor about when and for how long you should wear a brace for optimal results. It's probably not best to wear the device all the time or you will suspect you are not seeing result when in fact, you are only used to wearing the product. Let your limbs breathe once in awhile!

Can Medication Help Treat Arthritis?

If this product isn't helping as much as a patient needs with pain management, an anti-inflammatory over-the-counter or prescription medication might be suggested. Other forms of treatment might include warm or cold packs, physical therapy, or lifestyle adjustments. Treatments might be employed for several weeks to see how the body responds before switching or adding methods. See your doctor with any questions, recommendations, and proper diagnosis before trying new supplements or products.
