An Lcode is a tool used for medical billing. Lcodes are assigned to orthosis and prosthesis that meet a set of requirements in both functionality and physical attributes of the brace, some splints and immobilizers are also included. The Lcodes assigned to the products are important because they correlate with a suggested costs to bill insurance companies.
Lcodes very widely in requirements. Lcodes are determined based on where the brace is worn, how it junctions, the type of support it provides, and many more factors. Whether the brace is altered by a qualified professional also affects the Lcode of the orthosis.
Lcodes are a part of the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS). Manufacturers do not determine what Lcode will be assigned to which item, an outside company must assign the Lcode.
These codes apply to medical billing, meaning that retail customers cannot apply them to their insurance without a prescription. If you desire to purchase an item that has an Lcode at retail (without insurance) you may, however we do not recommend you ignore any doctor's recommendations. Our company is not able to accept any payments from insurance companies. If you do have a script for a brace that needs to be billed to your insurance, that will have to be done through a clinic or pharmacy near you.
