The code L0472 applies to TLSO back braces that provide triplanar control. This means that the brace controls movement over all three plans of the human body. Hyper-extension is often an concern with patients that are prescribed this type of orthosis, hyper-extensionm prevention is a must. Rigid support must be given from top-to-bottom and side-to-side. The vertical support runs from the sternal notch (below the clavicle) to the top of he pelvis. This rigid vertical plane must have support components on both the sternal and pelvic ends. The L0472 braces must also provide pads for the front and back of the brace. Straps and closures must be provided for a correct fit for each patient.

Braces with the L0472 classification must limit spinal movement. This element is essential for quality healing. This type of brace is meant to restrict all types of motion in the torso. This includes forward/backward motion, rotational motion, and side-to-side motion.

In order to qualify as an L0472 TLSO, the brace must be fitted and shaped to fit an individual patient. These braces are not made as a special order for one specific patient,. Although it is prefabricated, it must be fitted and adjusted by an expert.
