When you need just a little more support for your back than the average wraparound, your doctor may prescribe to you an L0626 Lumbar orthosis. These back braces come with a more rigid support than most elastic lumbar supports. In order to qualify fort he medical billing code L0626, these back braces must meet a specific set of regulations. (see regulations below)
The L0626 lumbar orthosis must provide control for side-to-side movement. In order for these braces to provide a more rigid support, rigid panels must be provided for the back of the brace (at least one per brace). The length of the back must extend from the top the first lumbar vertebra to the last. Much like other lumbar wraparounds, the L0626 also provides support through compression. The compression within the torso lifts weight from the spinal column, preventing the discs from getting pinched. These braces must also include adjustments straps and closures.
There are some elements which these braces may also provide, however they neither qualify or disqualify them for the L0626 billing code. These elements include padding, stays, and shoulder straps. Also these braces may or may not be designed for a pendulous abdomen. A pendulous design is made specifically for those whose figures have an abdominal region larger than their hips.
Although the L0626 lumbar supports are prefabricated items, they must be customized in some way to fit a specific patient. These customizations must be done by trained personnel, and may include trimming, molding, assembly, or any other means of customization. These modifications must be patient specific.
If you suffer from chronic back pain, you should seek medical advice from a professional. Untreated conditions can worsen, causing more problems down the road.
