LSO braces with the medical billing code L0630 must have control over the side to side movement. In order to receive the proper support for the back there must be a rigid panel for the back. Additionally, to provide the proper amount of support that an L0630 requires, the length of the back must reach from the tailbone to the T-9 vertebra, which is located in the center of the spinal column.

The way the L0630 relieves the load, and strain from the spine, is by compressing the abdominal cavity so weight and pressure is redistributed evenly throughout the torso. This inner cavity compression is important to lift strain from the discs.

A brace of this nature must also include straps and closures to ensure a proper fit for each patient. These Braces may also include additional features such as shoulder straps, padding, stays (to keep the garment from rolling), or a pendulous design, however the L0630 coding is not dependent on these components.

In order for this type of prefabricated LSO to receive an L0630 classification, it must be fitted and modified for a specific patient by a trained individual. Modifications include, but are not limited to: Trimming, bending, molding, assembly, and alterations by other means. It is important to get a professional diagnosis of any back injury, to ensure that it is properly treated. Back injuries that are not properly treated can lead to other serious complications.
