Many circumstances can lead up to knee pain. Once you've decided enough is enough, you go to see your doctor. After your doctor's visit, you may end up with a prescription for a knee brace with the medical billing code L1820. This is a fairly common knee brace among athletes. The L1820 is the medical billing code used for knee orthosis' which meet a specific set of qualifications. (see qualifications below)
Physically, an L1820 coded knee orthosis must have padding surrounding the patella (knee cap). This feature is instrumental for comfort and healing. These knee braces must also have joints. Joints allow for easier movement of the knee. The features in L1820 knee braces may result in patellar control. However, the L1820 coding is not dependent upon whether or not patellar control is provided.
The L1820 medical billing code applies to ready-made knee braces. This billing code also includes any fitting and adjustments that need to be made. All recommendations made by your doctor should be followed. Untreated injuries may worsen, resulting in permanent damage. If you are experiencing daily pain in your knee joints, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor, or othotist.
