Designed for use on patients transported by ambulance to stabilize neck injuries during transport and for an extended period of time long after, the extent of support offered by this product makes it most purchased by ambulatory sectors. It immobilizes the patient's neck in three different directions of motion with a rigid polyethylene shell and is easy to adjust to any patient's specific chin and occipital measurements. Pressure by contact of the device is evenly distributed among the jaw, sternum and occiput and does not put any direct pressure on the clavicle, a common place of injury in ambulatory situations.

You've heard the benefits this product delivers to ambulatory sectors, but it also has many favorable features of patients. All areas of contact with the patient's body are lined with a comfortable Sorbatex foam padding that absorbs and wicks away moisture from the skin, keeping the environment as clean as possible. Because the patient will be wearing the device for extended periods of time it's rapid absorbency and then evaporation is important to avoid skin breakdown, a vulnerability of patients living with devices. Furthermore, it's chin and occipital pads are made of a breathable material that can also be removed to wash.

A total of 6 different sizes are available for the Miami J Collars and sizing guidelines are somewhat involved. Please be sure you have read the information provided thoroughly and comprehend it's message prior to ordering for a patient. Body size, muscle tone, length of neck and gender are all factors to consider when purchasing for a patient. Many different models are available for purchase so be aware of the selection options and that additional sized back pieces can be purchased to modify the device if a patient's measurements require it.

  • Sizing is based on neck height, not patient size, e.g., Large means patient has a long neck (3" or more).
  • A patient with a large body may wear a Short collar, e.g., muscular male. Many adults are best fit with a short collar, regardless of body size.
  • Stout is the exception. It also accommodates the heavier patient with a thick neck.
  • Always measure from the highest point on the shoulder to the lowest point of the chin.
  • Super Short is for the kyphotic chin-on-chest patient. It comes with a Regular Back. Different sized Back Pieces may be ordered if patient anatomy dictates.
